About

What is the Christmas Island Amateur Radio Club object and purpose?

a) To foster an interest in amateur radio amongst the general (Christmas Island local) community.
b) To erect, maintain and operate for the benefit of members, an amateur radio club station (on Christmas Island).
c) To provide instruction and assistance for persons (Christmas Island residents) in radio theory and/or studying for amateur radio certificates (of proficiency and licenses).
d) To provide communications for the (Christmas Island) community, and agencies where possible in support of (Christmas Island) community events and in times of emergency.
e) To provide basic operating infrastructure and support for amateurs (visiting Christmas Island) from mainland Australia or Overseas countries.

Why do we operate a small and somewhat unique radio club in such a remote location?

We are a group of like minded volunteers with advanced Amateur Radio license qualifications, and first hand experience living on, or having lived or worked on Christmas Island in the recent past. We have observed that through amateur radio, there is a significant opportunity to contribute to the Christmas Island community through Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) training, Youth On The Air (YOTA) activities, Wireless Institute Civil Emergency Network (WICEN) support, and encourage tourist visits by amateur radio operators wishing to set up DXpedition stations and enjoy the beauty and hospitality of Christmas Island.

We are also aware that as Christmas Island is only occasionally activated by radio amateurs (considered ‘Rare DX’ by most world wide enthusiasts), there is an opportunity for us to help activate this location more frequently and fill a great need.
